Hilltopper Team Rules

The Carolina Hilltopper staff is committed to creating an excellent teaching, competing and practice environment. Before a player signs the Acknowledgement, he and his parents must think carefully about the following expectations and requirements. There will be no tolerance for breaking team rules. The consequences are the loss of a spot on the roster and a partial refund of any fees provided family is in good standing financially with the Hilltoppers according to the payment policies set herein.

Players are expected to attend team practices. It is understood that players who miss a practice will notify the coaching staff in advance. It is further understood that acceptance of a roster spot is verification that a player will attend all tournaments and scrimmages during the season. Parents are expected to make all payments according to the schedules provided by the Hilltopper staff. The Hilltopper staff may terminate a player’s roster spot in the event of non-payment of dues. Any termination of a team spot will result in a refund less a $250.00 administrative fee provided family is in full compliance with all payment policies.

Players and parents are expected to display impeccable sportsmanship during practice, games, and any Hilltopper events. The use of inappropriate language directed at teammates, officials, coaches, parents or tournament officials will not be tolerated. Transgressions of this policy may result in, but not be limited to, reduced playing time or suspension from the team at the discretion of the head coach. Parents must understand that this is a select lacrosse team dedicated to competitive results at tournaments and practices. There are no promises of playing time and parents will not question playing time during a tournament, practice or scrimmage. Parent concerns shall be handled through the Program Director at an appropriate time, a time to be determined by the Program Director, and such requests shall be handled reasonably. Complaints to coaches about playing time is an offense that may result in immediate termination from the Hilltopper Program. Hilltopper players are expected to be punctual for all events, especially tournaments. One individual cannot make a team tardy for games, and players cannot arrive late prior to games and scrimmages.

Players are expected to dress for tournaments according to the exact specifications of the Head Coach. Players will receive Hilltopper gear and are expected to wear this gear solely unless Head Coach authorizes alternate gear. This is a team sport and we dress appropriately. Players shall use diligence in keeping up with all of their team issued gear, as loss of gear/equipment will result in additional costs for player if items can be replaced. There are no guarantees for replacement gear/equipment. Again, we dress as a team, alternate compression shirts are not allowed, nor are non team conforming socks. Players are expected to use proper and respectful language at all times. The use of alcohol, drugs, tobacco or any substance designed to stimulate a pharmacological or psychological imbalance will not be tolerated. The coaching staff retains the right to inspect all possessions, including bags, backpacks, or other containers to insure compliance of this rule. Players who break this substance rule will be subject to immediate dismissal from team with no reimbursement.

It is further acknowledged that you represent not only your parents and your school, you represent a program founded on the precept of lacrosse excellence. If the Hilltopper staff assists you in the college recruitment process, you will always respond to collegiate coaching inquiries and correspondences (even to politely decline an invitation to further explore an institution). Your current actions or inactions can have an adverse effect on future Hilltopper recruits. You are expected to represent this program with care and class. On trips, we expect behavior to be exemplary. Players will behave appropriately while traveling, in hotels, or at any time on team trips. Failure to comply with these rules will result in a player’s immediate suspension and parents are required to arrange prompt supervised travel home within twenty four hours.

The Hilltopper coaching staff retains the right to modify or add additional rules at any time. The addition of rules will be provided digitally to parents and players. Prior to accepting a roster spot, these rules must be read and accepted by both player and parent (s).
