We’re back and ready for our 2nd year of our “Top Box” league! Playing Box Lacrosse is an excellent way for players to increase their finer lacrosse skills. By playing on a smaller field players will be forced to handle the ball more frequently than in a normal game, learn to make quicker decisions and create opportunities in tighter windows. At the same time playing outside in the open air allows players to participate in a fall sport where they can be distanced from one another. Fall box lacrosse will cater to three different age groups. High School Upperclassmen in grades 12 and 11. High School Underclassmen in grades 10 and 9. As well as middle school for players in grades 8, 7 and 6.
The league will start on August 8th and run every Sunday until September 19th on the Orange County Sports Plex’s turf field. We will not hold sessions on the weekend of Labor day (September 5th). The address of the sports plex is 101 Meadowlands Dr, Hillsborough, NC 27278. The cost of fall box lacrosse is $150 for the 7 weeks of play. Current Members of our Hilltopper Program can register for a discounted price using the discount code sent in a previous email.
The format of our box lacrosse league is 5v5 lacrosse. Players will need to play a modified version of lacrosse with smaller goals and on a 70 yard by 40 yard field. The game will consist of two running 20 minute halves with a 3 minute half time in between. Take out checks are not allowed in box lacrosse and all penalties will result in a 60 second man up opportunity for the other team. Each player will also receive a Hilltopper box lacrosse penny.
To maximize play and opportunity on the field, each high school age team will be composed of no more than 14 players. When possible players of the same schools will be put on the same team. If a team does not have a goalie for a game we will try to replace them with a goalie from the previous team, however, we will also supply goalie gear for the team to pick their own goalie.
We will have three divisions for play. High School Varsity for Grades 11 and 12, High School Junior Varsity for grades 9th, 10th and advanced 8th graders and a youth division for grades 3rd-8th. Both of our High School divisions will result in a championship format with a tournament at the end. Our youth divisions is intended to have an educational component and will consist of 15-20 minutes of teaching before and hour of play. Teams in the youth division will be made up on game days before play while high school teams will be set in advance.
